Transportation

The 2018 Alterman Conference & School will take place at Politecnico di Milano - Leonardo Campus, (Piazza Leonardo da Vinci 32 - 20133 Milano). The Milano Leonardo campus is the oldest of Politecnico di Milano's campuses. It was inaugurated in 1927 in the buildings which are located in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci. Over the course of the decades the campus has been expanded to encompass new campuses and given rise to a real and genuine university quarter commonly dubbed "Città Studi" (City of Studies). Go to the online maps to find out more.

How to arrive in Milano.

  • From worldwide: If no direct fly to any of the three Milano airports (see below) is available, you must fly to a hub airport such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, FrankfurtBarcelonaIstanbul or Moscow and then you can take a cheap flight from some lowcost company with headquarters in Milano hub (for instance Vueling from Barcelona).

    Terminal 1: several airlines for national, European and intercontinental flights;

    Terminal 2: mainly hub of "EasyJet" for national and European flights.

    The advantage to fly with the same company is that the second flight will always wait for the arrival of passengers of the first flight even if it has delay. The inconvenience could be the price.

  • From countries in Europe:  By train. See train timetables.

How to move in Milano:

Arriving in and moving from or through Milano is quite easy and relatively low time consuming, thanks to the transport system. The city transport infrastructures consist of four undergrounds and a railway link, connected with the regional and the national railways (new lines are under construction), tramways (some very traditional), buses and trolleybuses (Here you can download the latest Milano Metro Network and Suburban Railways map, with tickets fare and types). Taxi service is very efficient. Last, car sharing and bike sharing services are also available, especially in the surroundings of the city center.
For instance, from Stazione Centrale  (Railway Central Station) or Stazione Cadorna (Railway Cadorna Station) you can take the underground (Green Line M2 direction GESSATE) to the 'Piola station' and then make a 10 minutes walk to Piazza Leonardo da Vinci. Politecnico di Milano, Campus Leonardo main gate is at 32, Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci.

MILANO METRO NETWORK

Metro Line Green M2 connects all main railway stations to the conference venue (Metro station 'Piola'; hover your mouse on the green hotspot in the map below).
